Philadelphia City Rowing (PCR) empowers Philadelphia public school students to unlock their full potential through the transformative power of rowing, academic support, and wellness education. We provide free, comprehensive programming that brings students out of their neighborhoods and onto the Schuylkill River—expanding access, building community, and developing future leaders.

PCR’s year-round programs combine competitive rowing with academic enrichment, mentorship, and personal development. Students build physical and mental strength while developing discipline, resilience, and teamwork. We partner with public schools, educators, and families to ensure that youth thrive not only on the water but also in the classroom and in life. PCR helps students develop self-confidence, leadership skills, and a vision for their future through a supportive, inclusive environment rooted in excellence and equity.

Rowing is a sport long associated with privilege, yet youth from under-resourced communities are rarely given the opportunity to participate. In Philadelphia, budget cuts have eliminated many after-school sports and enrichment programs, and public-school students, particularly Black and Brown youth, face some of the highest dropout rates in the country. PCR bridges this gap by offering accessible, high-impact programming that promotes health, education, and opportunity for all.

We envision a city where every young person, regardless of zip code, has the chance to thrive through sport, scholarship, and support. By removing barriers and opening doors, we’re cultivating a more diverse generation of student-athletes, scholars, and changemakers on and off the river.
