On behalf of the Directors and staff of The Nelson Foundation, I would like to share with you the immediate actions that the Foundation has taken, and will be taking, in support of the Greater Philadelphia nonprofit community and our grantees partners:

  • Last week, the Foundation became a Lead Contributor to the newly formed PHL COVID-19 Fund, which will make rapid response grants to nonprofits in 10 counties in the Greater Philadelphia Region. Click hereto learn more about the fund and to apply for a grant if needed.
  • Yesterday, the Directors unanimously authorized staff to make all 2020 second-year installment grant payments as soon as possible. Interim reports for these installment payments will remain the same, e.g. if your organization has an interim report due July 31, your report will still be due on July 31. We hope to get these grant installment checks in the mail before April 1, 2020.
  • In addition, evaluation of core spring grantmaking applications will be accelerated, so that grants can be made by April 30, 2020.
  • Finally, several existing core grantees with upcoming grant installment payments of $10,000 will have their next grant payment increased to $12,500. And, any core grant awards that were restricted to project support may now be used for general operating purposes at the discretion of the grantee.

This is a very challenging and uncertain time for all of us. Please know that The Nelson Foundation is trying to be proactive and responsive in support of your organizations and the communities you serve. If you have an idea or a need, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are also interested in learning what you are doing in your “on the ground” responses.

We continue to think of each of you. Stay healthy!
