Grantee Spotlight: Hand2Paw
Hand2Paw strengthens both human and animal wellness by equipping youth impacted by trauma and inequity with skills, social-emotional growth, and paid experience to build stable futures and pursue meaningful careers in animal care, while contributing to stronger, informed communities that support animal well-being.
Through hands-on experience, mentorship, and a supportive community, young people gain valuable exposure to the animal welfare field while developing practical job skills, confidence, and a greater sense of responsibility. Participants have opportunities to learn in real work environments, build relationships with caring adults, and strengthen skills that can support their future education, employment, and personal goals.
At the heart of Hand2Paw’s work is the understanding that both young people and animals benefit from connection, consistency, and care. Working alongside animal welfare and wellness providers gives participants opportunities to practice compassion, patience, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving while contributing to the well-being and enrichment of animals in need. These experiences also help young people recognize their own strengths and see themselves as capable, valued members of their communities.
By bringing together youth development, workforce readiness, mentorship, and animal welfare, Hand2Paw creates a unique environment where young people can learn, grow, and envision new possibilities for their futures. The organization goes beyond providing job experience, helping participants develop transferable skills, form meaningful relationships, and build a stronger foundation as they navigate their next steps.
Through this innovative model, Hand2Paw is creating meaningful impact for young people and animals throughout Philadelphia, demonstrating the power of compassion and connection to strengthen individuals and communities. Learn more about Hand2Paw here.
