Grantee Spotlight: YoungMoms
YoungMoms is a nonprofit organization serving pregnant and parenting young women ages 14–21 in southern Chester County, Pennsylvania. Through individualized case management, life skills education, transportation assistance, and a strong sense of community, YoungMoms equips young mothers with the support, resources, and skills needed to overcome obstacles, minimize social inequities, and build a strong foundation for their families.
Many of the young women served by YoungMoms face significant barriers, including poverty, housing insecurity, limited transportation, language barriers, trauma, domestic violence, and lack of access to healthcare. Using a trauma-informed, relationship-centered approach, YoungMoms helps participants set and achieve goals through the Eight Dimensions of Wellness framework, which encourages growth in areas such as educational, physical, financial, emotional, relational, and environmental wellness. This holistic approach empowers young mothers to build confidence, strengthen life skills, and create lasting pathways toward self-sufficiency and stability.
Founded in 2010, YoungMoms has grown from serving just four participants in its first year to supporting more than 75 young mothers and their children annually. A recent graduate from YoungMoms shared, “The most important things I learned in the program were how to take care of my family, manage my money, when to ask for help, and what community resources are available to me.”
Today, YoungMoms remains committed to ensuring that every young mother has the encouragement and support she needs to thrive.
